Seven Southeastern students will compete for the title of Miss Southeastern 2013 on Saturday September 15th. Miss Southeastern 2012, Jennifer Jarreau of Denham Springs, will crown her successor in the annual pageant set for 7pm in the Pottle Music Building Auditorium located on the SLU campus.
The pageant, which is sponsored by the Campus Activity Board, has been a part of SLU history since 1949 and a Miss America preliminary since 1962. The seven contestants will compete in five categories: personal interview, on-stage question, swimsuit, talent, and evening wear. Miss Southeastern 2013 will advance to the Miss Louisiana Pageant in June, which will be held in Monroe.
Contestants for the Miss Southeastern pageant are sophomore kinesiology major Crystal Gonzalez of Hammond, sophomore kinesiology major Averi Harris and senior general studies major Crystal Schayot, both of Slidell; sophomore biology major Renee' Picou of Livingston; sophomore vocal performance major Bethany Putnam of Mandeville; junior kinesiology major Erin St. Pierre of Larose; and freshman communication major Hailee Weber of Destrehan.
Tickets are available at the CAB office in the Student Union, room 201. Admission is free, but an assigned ticket from CAB is required for admission. For the fourth consecutive year, those unable to attend the competition can view it via the Internet at www.southeastern.edu/cab. For additional information please call 985-549-3805.
The "Miracle Maker Award" will once again be featured as a way of collecting donations for the Miss America national platform, the Children's Miracle Network. Containers for donations in each 2013 contestant's name will be available in the War Memorial Student Union Mall until the day of the pageant and in the Pottle lobby on the night of the pageant. The Miracle Maker Award will go to the contestant whose container has the most donations.
