Encaustic Art Exhibit to Feature SLU Alums

The Red Dot Gallery will be hosting an encaustic art exhibit featuring local encaustic artists Jessica Danby and Megan Ford.  The exhibit will run from August 3rd through September 4th at the Red Dot Gallery located in Ponchatoula at 128 W. Pine Street.  A wine and cheese reception will be held Friday August 3rd from 5pm to 9pm to kick-off the exhibit.

One of the oldest forms of painting, encaustic is a technique where the artist paints with hot wax.

Danby, a resident of Hammond, earned her degree from Southeastern and received her Masters in Fine Art at The Memphis College of Art.  She is currently the Talented Arts teacher at Fontainebleau High School in Mandeville.

Ford received her degree in Art in Painting and Drawing from Southeastern.  The Ponchatoula native has a talent of using wax with a sculptural quality.  As a result of applying layer after layer of wax her work is 3-Dimensional.

In addition to work featured by Danby and Ford, handcrafted items of local gallery artist can be viewed during normal gallery hours.  Click here for more info on the encaustic exhibit and the Red Dot Gallery.
