James Michalopoulos, a celebrated New Orleans based artist, will be presenting a lecture called "Trials & Tribulations during the Lunch Lecture series on Thursday November 12 at the Hammond Regional Arts Center in downtown Hammond. The lecture starts at noon and is free to the public. Space is limited so please RSVP to info@hammondarts.org.
Michalopoulos will be in Hammond to kick-off the James Michalopoulos Exhibition, which will run from November 9 through December 14, 2012 at the HRAC. An opening reception is being held on Friday night from 5pm to 8pm and will include a wine bar and hors d'oeuvres.
Known for his distinctive architectural renderings, Michalopoulos is an artist who refreshes the familiar with colors that dance vividly in and out of the canvas. He has earned a reputation for the unique musicality of his paintings with his manipulation of historic architecture. His reputation is based on his unique portrayal of the personality and style of homes from exaggerated viewpoints of photos taken very close to the subject matter. The work of one of New Orleans' favorite artist can be described as expressionistic, energetic and colorful. His work is showcased in France, England, Germany and Holland. In the United States he has a presence in New York, San Fransisco, New Orleans, Atlanta and Dallas.
Michalopoulos has studios and galleries in Burgundy, France and New Orleans. He also has become the favorite artist of the New Orleans Jazz Fest, as he has been commissioned four times(1998, 2001, 2003, & 2006) to create the official Jazz Fest poster.
